On August 31, 2022 CMCR hosted a press conference organized by Representative Scott Peters of California to provide a briefing in regard to HR 8540, “Developing and Nationalizing Key Cannabis Research Act of 2022" that he and Representative Dave Joyce of Ohio are introducing. The Act envisions enhanced support for research into medicinal cannabis and the broader understanding of the impact of cannabis on public health by establishing a national research agenda, funding 10 national interdisciplinary centers of excellence on cannabis research, and shielding universities from legal threat if they acquire for study purposes medicinal cannabis products from dispensaries in states which it is legal to do so. In recognition of CMCR‘s national leadership role on medicinal cannabis research, Mr. Peters requested that CMCR host this press conference.
